What Impact Will the London ULEZ Have on Van Drivers?
By now, if you live in London or travel through the city regularly, you should be aware of the ULEZ. If you are still unsure about what this scheme is and how it will affect you, this article should tell you everything you need to know.
What?
The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) is an area of London in which only vehicles that meet new exhaust emission standards will be able to travel free of charge. This system will replace the current T-Charge (Toxicity Charge) and operate in addition to the congestion charge.
Why?
The London ULEZ is an environmental strategy designed to reduce the air pollution that older vehicles contribute heavily to, as toxic substances emitted by these vehicles have become a serious threat to public health.
When?
The new ULEZ regulations will be imposed on the 8th of April 2019 and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The parameters of the zone are set to expand further in 2021.
Will My Van Be Affected?
Petrol:
If you have a petrol van, it must meet the Euro 4 emission standard. All petrol-fuelled vans registered with the DVLA from January 2006 meet this minimum requirement.
Diesel:
If you have a diesel van, it must meet the Euro 6 standard. Diesel vans sold from September 2016 should be compliant.
Vans which are not compliant with the emission standards will have to pay a £12.50 daily charge to enter the zone.
What Should I Do If My Van Is Not Compliant?
If your van breaches the new ULEZ regulations, you’ll have a number of options. Some vehicles are allowed to have emissions reduction technology retrofitted under the scheme to make them compliant, or you can simply pay the fee each time you drive through the ULEZ of London.
Alternatively, you could replace your vehicle with a ULEZ-compliant used van. At Auto Capital, we have a huge range of Euro 6 diesel vans available to purchase or finance.
