Tips to reduce your fuel bill

If that title alone isn’t music to your ears, then either your fuel bill is non-existent, or you have more money than sense. If that’s the case, we can’t help you. Sorry. Joking aside, we know fuel bills can eat into your bank account like the hungry caterpillar himself, so here are three tips to reduce that bill.

Reduce the weight

It’s easy to carry your entire work life in the van just in case you need that piece of kit you’ve used once in the last five years. Leave it at home. Or at the office. Just not in your van. Each piece of equipment you house in your van that doesn’t get used adds weight to your vehicle, meaning you’re burning extra fuel for no good reason.

Consider whether you need anything on the top of your van too. This increased drag and puts added strain on your engine, so if you don’t need it, don’t take it.

Mechanical checks

Regular servicing can be detrimental to the performance of your van. Air filters, brakes and tyre pressure can all dramatically effect your MPG and the performance of your van. Take a look inside your handbook and make sure everything matches up to the weight of your vehicle.

Route planning

Is the fastest route always the best route? Pay attention to live traffic updates and plan your route accordingly, avoiding traffic jams is one of the best ways to save on fuel. Something else you can do is ensuring your journeys are efficient, instead of travelling to the same place twice in a week, can you combine the journeys to save on fuel?
