The ABT VW e-Transporter Is Coming

ABT are best known for their ludicrously powerful upgrades to a range of cars from the likes of Audi and VW. This time, their attention has been turned to the ever-popular VW Transporter.

While the e-Transporter that we all saw at the motor show has received the visual touch-ups we’ve come expect form ABT, this isn’t just a one-off build. ABT are actually responsible for the development of the e-Transporter, much like they did with the e-Crafter. The electric midsized van is due on sale late this year; albeit without the ABT makeover!

This upgrade includes ABT’s skirts, front and rear bumpers, a new grille and wing and there are also louvred tailpipe covers to mask the lack of actual metal protruding. 20-inch Sport GR alloys adorn all four corners, wrapped in Continental rubber. Grey and green graphics finish the look off, much like the Audi RS6-E we saw at Geneva last year.

Beneath the body, very little has changed from the model we saw at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show last September other than the suspension. A 109bhp electric motor powers you along, also producing a healthy 200Nm of torque. Either a 37.3kWh or 74.6kWh battery will provide either 130 or 250 miles in range; more than enough for local miles. A 40kW charger should see the battery return to 80 percent charge in 49 and 98 minutes respectively.

Despite its revised running gear, the e-Transporter is no less spacious as its ICE variants. The full 6.7 cubic meters of space is still available in the back and as ABT convert vans directly from the VW production line, electric drive capabilities can be added to any new or used T6 models including the California or Caravelle.
