Scrappage scheme
With the air quality crisis that is plaguing London drivers, The Mayor of London has launched a scrappage scheme to support micro-businesses, sole traders and charities in the replacement of vehicles that don’t meet the ULEZ standards. Here’s everything you need to know to find out if you are eligible for the scrappage scheme.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone standards are getting tighter and with a daily charge to travel through the zone if your vehicle does not meet the standards, it is a good time to think about switching your vehicle.
Under the scrappage scheme, eligible businesses can scrap up to three older, non-compliant vans, so they can afford to switch to cleaner vehicles. Click through to the Gov website's ULEZ scrappage scheme info to see the eligibility criteria.
For business owners, there are two scrappage options you could be eligible for:
Replacing with a diesel van
The vehicle being scrapped as part of this must be a pre-Euro 6 light diesel can that does not meet the ULEZ standards. It should be replaced the purchase, lease or hire of a Euro 6 diesel light can and the business or sole trader must have its registered address in Greater London. For this scheme, you could get a scrappage grant of £3,500.
Replacing with an electric van
The vehicle being scrapped must be a pre- Euro 6 diesel light van that does not meet the ULEZ standards. You will be replacing the vehicle with the purchase, lease or hire of an electric light van. With this scheme you could get £3,500 for scrapping your non-compliant vehicle and a further £2,500 to contribute towards running costs and insurance of the electric vehicle.
